If you believe killing Abby at the end of the game would be justified because she killed Ellie's father figure then, in order to be consistent, you would have to also believe that Joel deserved to die because he did the exact same thing to Abby. While I'm not a violent person I can certainly understand wanting to make someone who murdered a loved one suffer, and so do you, judging from the way you wanted Abby to suffer despite her objectively losing more than Ellie throughout the course of the story (Abby lost four friends and her father, Ellie lost her father and one friend) AND being tortured by the Rattlers.Įven though they're just fictional characters, let's try to put this into perspective. If Abby had continued to beat Joel with the club and forced Ellie to watch I would agree with you, but that's not what happened. As far as I remember Tommy was knocked unconscious before the torture began, so he didn't witness it. She only hits Joel one more time after Ellie enters the room, and it's the killing blow. Both Abby and Ellie suffered the consequences of revenge, because as Arthur Morgan put it "vengeance is a fools game". Abby was able to break out of that cycle thanks to Lev, as killing Dina certainly would've continued the cycle, but Ellie couldn't with Dina and JJ as she felt that the only way to get closure over Joel as well as rid herself of her survivors guilt and PTSD was to kill Abby. You wanted exactly what Ellie wanted, to kill Abby in order to get closure over Joel, but the whole point of the story is that revenge doesn't bring closure, and only contributes to a cycle of violence that eventually destroys a person unless they're able to break out of that cycle. If Abby deserved to die for what she did then Ellie deserved worse. If that's the case then the only reason you feel that Abby deserved to die for killing two people while Ellie didn't despite killing four (including a pregnant woman) + all the uninvolved wolves and Seraphites is because you have an emotional attachment to Joel and Ellie that prevents you from empathizing with Abby, despite her objectively losing more than Ellie. If Ellie is justified, then so is Abby, according to your logic. I will end my rant by saying that pt2 story is terrible it undermines everything that pt1 set in motion, it seemed to be more focused on throwing as much PC stuff into it that they they didn't respect the events of pt1.Ībby killed Joel for the same reason Ellie wanted to kill Abby. So yea in that world ellie should have killed abby, the only reason she didn't was because of the good man Joel was. In the courts today, Joel would be a hero and abby would get life in prison. Joel's intent was to save a little girl from people trying to kill her, abbys was to kill a man that that was defending a little girl. Motives and intent are everything when it comes to justice. Joel was a man that tracked a cross a zombie invested country to get a little girl to some people to make a cure.Ībby was a women that killed a man very violently after he saved her life, just because he defended a little girl that was about to be killed by her father. So yes she deserved to die in the same way that Joel did. Even after seeing Joel risk his life to save hers, still thought he should die that way. So yes abby had warped logic, she knew the story about what happened to her father was not innocent. So when ellie and Tommy catch up with them they return the favor and killed her friends that helped her commit such a atrocity. There was no justice there, only revenge. Instead abby with the help of her friends subdue Joel tortured and beat him to death in the most brutal way abd forcing his daughter and brother to watch the brutality. A few years later he encounters abby and saves her life, you would think that would be enough to tip the cosmic scales. When Joel killed abbys father he had a scapel pointed at Joel saying you cannot take her. So the fireflies we not good, they were evil people justifying their actions. The heads of the fireflies knew this and still made Joel trek across the country with her fully knowing they would kill her in the end. The fireflies wanted to kill and harvest the brain of a 14 year old girl, which was never asked. The people he killed in pt1, were cannibals or hunters, with the exception of the fireflys. He never killed for pleasure only because people forced him too. So firstly, Joel was a good that was forced to do terrible things to survive. But seemed to go to shit in the second part. I will not play pt2 for many reasons, so I just read the story, because its good. So I have not played the last of us pt 2, just pt 1.
